Audio Archives

Here's a small sample of my unusual audio collection.

Bloopers

  • The Firestone Tyre Factory Blooper.[50 seconds - 685 kB]
Warwick Rankin's famous blooper as he reports on a fire at the Firestone Tyre Factory.

  • A History of Rings. [4 minutes, 6 seconds - 3.3 MB]
Bob Moore attempting to read a commercial for a jeweller. A classic blooper. Recorded circa 1978 at radio station 2CH in Sydney, Australia.
Warning: this soundtrack contains frequent coarse language.

  • Macquarie News, with laughter. [1 minute, 2 seonds - 859 kB]
A Macquarie National News bulletin (Australia) with a laughing newsreader.

  • Orson Welles Findus Recording Session. [4 minutes, 13 seconds - 3.4 MB]
Every Post Production sound recordist knows that some voice artists are easy to get along with, and some are difficult. None was more difficult to get along with in a recording session than Orson Welles. Here is his famous recording session for Findus.

  • 2SM 1980 Blooper Reel. [25 minutes, 40 seconds - 11.8 MB] Clicking this link takes you to esnips.com where this file is hosted.
This is a Blooper Reel compiled at radio station 2SM, Sydney, Australia, for Christmas 1980. It contains bloopers from 1980 but also contains historical bloopers from 2SM and other radio stations. Duration 25 minutes, 40 seconds. Warning: this soundtrack contains some coarse language.

  • And following are selected highlights from the above 2SM 1980 Blooper Reel.

Radio 2SM Sales Presentation Tapes

These tapes were used by salesmen to sell advertising at radio station 2SM in Sydney, Australia. It now remains a good historical record of what radio station 2SM was like when it was the top rating radio station in Sydney. (Clicking on these links will take you to esnips.com where the files are hosted.)

Historical Recordings

  • The Hindenburg Disaster. [5 minutes, 56 seconds - 4.1 MB]
Many people have heard the famous recording of Herb Morrison describing the arrival of the Hindenburg and the disaster that followed when the airship caught on fire. There's a two minute recording that is often played by the media. What is less often heard is the several minutes before and after the airship catches fire. This is the extended recording.

  • 2JJJ First test transmission. [20 seconds - 242 kB]
The first test tranmission of radio station 2JJJ (Sydney, Australia) as it prepared to change from being 2JJ on the AM band to 2JJJ on the FM band, around the middle of 1980.

    • The Home-made Tape Recorder. [2 minutes, 25 seconds - 1.7 MB]
